Production amount per hectare

In the countries have four seasons such as Japan, tea stop growing during the wintertime and wait for the spring. When spring comes buds start developing, and new tender leaves are coming out. The first harvested teas are called Ichibancha, the second one is called Nibancha, and the third one is called Sanbancha. There are crops to harvest fruits (strawberry, rice etc.) and roots (potato). Tea does not belong to neither. Harvest period of tea is relatively long. During the harvest, leaves are keep growing. The best time to harvest teas are when leaves are still tender and young. It's all up to the farmers when they start harvesting their tea. Tea is first picked by hands for 3000-4000kg per/hectares, then switch to the harvest with using scissors to harvest approximately 10,000-15,000kg per/hectares first flush tea. The total amount of Nibancha is about the same as Ichibancha. According to the date by Shizuoka statistics Information office, the average amount of harvested tea in Shizuoka of past 10 years is as follows: Ichibancha 4633kg Nibancha4,653kg- San bancha, 3225kg Yonbancha-2902 However, more farms stop harvesting tea after they finish harvesting sanbancha. When fresh leaves are processed, the weight of tea is reduced greatly. 100 kg fresh leaves make 20-22kg crude tea.
